In Tuxtla Gutierrez, capital of the Chiapas, Tapachula and Comitan, where there are opportunities to practice Ecotourism or to enjoy a marvelous view at the Sumidero Canyon, the Tacana Volcano and at the Montebello lakes.
Towns and villages that mix traditions rich in history, culture and folklore, and a great hospitality that is a key characteristic of people in Chiapas. Throughout Chiapas there are endless tourist attractions of incomparable beauty. There is a diversity of the flora, as well as abundant of fauna.

The places rich for their wonderful landscapes are located among a group of destinations (Tuxtla Gutierrez, Chiapa de Corzo, San Cristobal de las Casas, Comitan, Palenque, Tonala y Tapachula) that make of this State a paradise, providing to the visitor an array of places to choose from.
Chiapas is one of the most biologically diverse regions in the world. The  green fields, forest and jungles, the fresh air, its unique flora and fauna, endangered species and much more.
In Palenque Chiapas Mexico shrouded in a mystical, magic mist lies the single most impressive Maya city in Mexico. A complex of Temples and Monuments of amazing beauty. These magnificent limestone structures apparently immune to ravages of time and the strangulation of the dense jungle in which they lay buried for centuries. They rise once again showing their indestructibility and timeless majesty amidst the exuberant sea of green that is Chiapas. The Splendor of the colossal building achievement in the middle of the jungle, far away from the sea or any visible supplies of water. Built with only the concept of the wheel but never used the Palace along with many excavated family dwellings had running water. Palenque stood and ruled this area from 600-900 A.D.

The actual room where the sarcophagus is located is so small that it is obvious that the Temple was build around it. Otherwise it would not have been impossible to be turn the sarcophagus in the small area in order to place it inside the chamber.
Also discovered was something commonly used in Egyptian Pyramids. At the top of the Temple of Inscriptions they four two holes in the structure floor, when investigated they discovered that they led to the bottom of the Temple and discovered the sarcophagus of King Pakal ( Pakal means Shield). The holes drilled were for communication after death, as has been seen in Egypt, considering the Mystery of Comalcalco, there seems to be more evidence of contact prior to anyone from the Old World, including Columbus. The magnificence of the Palace of more than 70,000 sq.ft. by far the largest structure on the site. All a tribute to the tremendous wisdom of one of the most significant civilizations of pre-hispanic America, the Maya. Only about ten percent of Palenque has been excavated. The Central area is the Temple of Inscriptions where more than 600 hieroglyphic figures were found. The Temple of Inscriptions, is one of Palenque's major attractions, which presents the most refined architecture in the entire complex, and where an enormous mausoleum was found underground in 1949 containing the King Pakal's Tomb, surrounded by offerings and jade decorations.

Palenque was listed in UNESCO's  World Patrimony in 1987 because of it's artistic and cultural value.

The Chol, ancient inhabitants called the city " Otulum" meaning walled fortress but the Spaniards misinterpreted the word and changed the name to Palenque, which in Castillan means " Palisade or wooden fortress ". In 1567 Fray Pedro Lorenzo de la Nada founded the city that s today called Palenque about 8 kilometers form the great Maya structuresThe Chol, ancient inhabitants called the city " Otulum" meaning walled fortress but the Spaniards misinterpreted the word and changed the name to Palenque, which in Castillan means " Palisade or wooden fortress ". Agua Azul and Misol Ja

Both a short distance from Palenque are two of the most surreal places in Mexico, Agua Azul and Mishol Ja. Agua Azul is a seemingly endless cascade after cascade of blue waters coming down from the mountains bringing the calcium deposits from the eroding rock from higher up into the falls and pools below leaving a deposit of travertine, giving the illusion of such blue water, or Agua Azul.
These enchanted places must be seen to be believed, no words describe nor photographs do them  justice. Ideal for swimming, picnics or just relaxing in the sounds of the falls and Mother Nature's symphony of the sound of Chiapas. Go caving behind Misol Ja there is a large cave.Truly, Mexico was an artist's canvas and Chiapas the resulting Masterpiece.

Tuxtla Gutierrez

This, the Capital city is one the more modern in Chiapas, Mexico. It has grown and evolved throughout its history to what it is today a bustling city with significant infrastructure to support hotels etc. for the booming tourist trade in Chiapas.

San Cristobal de las Casas

Founded in 1528, San Cristobal was named after its first bishop, Bartolomo de la Casas, who was a fervent supporter of the local natives rights, which the group Ejercito Zapatista Liberacion Nacional has been fighting the Mexican government. It is still a great problem in Chiapas today but for the most part the EZLN has calmed down and there hasn't been any armed conflicts the last few years. This town is home to the Santo Domingo Church, an elaborate baroque structure that now houses an excellent museum of Mayan culture.

Sumidero Canyon

The Grijalva River passes through the Canyon on
its tireless journey to the Gulf of Mexico. Sumidero Canyon is where thousands of Indians threw themselves off the cliffs rather than submit to Spanish rule.

Sumidero Canyon was declared a National Park in 1982.
