The Comalcalco Archeological Site

The most  unique Maya city in the Meso-American world had close ties to Palenque. Comalcalco was built at the end of the classical period with baked clay bricks, using ground seashells as motar since there is no limestone in the area as with other Maya sites. Most of the bricks were found to have the measurements and same type masons marks that were being used in Rome and greece during the same period of time, giving evidence of possible Roman ties with Tabasco 1000 years prior to Columbus setting sail. The Burial urns on the site are of the same type used in southeast asia and India. All can be seen in the on site museum. There are four general groupings from the main area of Comalcalco: The North Plaza, The Grand Acropolis and The East Acropolis.
